How to prevent road accidents and injuries to pedestrians
Are suggestions for pedestrian safety and safe driving tips for anyone Safe & Seen!
Did you know that over 5,000 pedestrians die every year in the United States, because they are hit by motor vehicles or bicycles? To be sure, if they share the sidewalks and streets, it is important that the surrounding area known. From simple precautions can prevent injury and possible death.
Three of the most frequent accidents of vehicles and pedestrians occur when pedestrians are the following errors:
1) does not cross a road crossing (Jaywalking).
2) Go into the street and not on the side of the road.
3) Go into the street in the same direction of moving vehicles.
To prevent these accidents, follow these simple safety tips for pedestrians:
BE SEEN: avoiding common dangers of the road.
Wait for the driver to stop and eye contact before crossing a street. Do not think they see.
Cross in a corner or marked trail, following traffic lights.
Sidewalks are obviously safer roads, but watch out for traffic on the ground.
If there is no sidewalk, walk on the left side of the road, facing traffic.
Cyclists must travel with the flow of traffic, preferably in marked lanes.
If you cross from left to right before a road on the left, and take over.
Do not start crossing when the light flashes red.
When crossing at a green light, the clock in all directions for turning cars.
Put a safety flag on a motorized wheelchair or stroller basket for visibility.
Sharing public spaces with vehicular traffic will be care and attention from everyone. If everyone is friendly and attentive, it is safe to handle, on foot, by bike, skates, wheelchairs, or even a scooter. We all need to avoid dangerous situations, and if the driver the following safety advice we all know where we're going safely!
